This professor's claim is a bunch of gobbeldygook as far as I'm concerned. It basically boils down to, if we lose a language, we lose the experience of that language's speakers and the ability to adapt to the situations in which the languages evolved. Which is a bunch of hooey.

I think it's more accurate to say that the people who deliver news and commentary to the US seem to feel they have to pick left or right. Most of the non-pundit, non-blogger people I know actually do have a range of positions that would fall on both sides of the spectrum.
